Join us as we kickoff our 2017 annual convention with a golf outing on Sunday, July 30th at noon at Forest Hills Golf.  The cost is $50 which includes 18 holes and cart. You are on your own for lunch.  Bring your spouse or significant other – all are welcome to play!

Sunday evening we will enjoy a nostalgic paddlewheel boat ride aboard the La Crosse Queen.  A buffet dinner will be served as we enjoy the majestic views of the Mississippi River and surrounding bluffs. The boat will also have a cash bar available.  After the boat ride, join us in the hospitality room. 

The seminars on Monday and Tuesday feature Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Ratings Bureau, Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance Division, Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Ethics and Practice Management/Succession Planning presented by Robert Mathers and Robert Teuber. The hospitality room will be open after all the evening events with the WAA providing your favorite beverages.  Bring a snack to share!


MONDAY – JULY 31, 2017

 

WORKER’S COMPENSATION RATING BUREAU– BERNARD ROSAUER & TAD CLEVELAND

Discuss and clarify many of the worker’s compensation issues that help minimize the insurance costs to business owners.

Bernard Rosauer began working as the WCRB’s President in 2010 and is responsible for overall bureau functions.  He has 26 years of property and casualty insurance industry experience working with both public and mutual insurance companies.  He also worked as business consultant with a focus on business culture and customer loyalty.  Mr. Rosauer graduated from North Park University in Chicago, IL with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1987 and has completed several executive education courses at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Tad Cleveland joined the WCRB in 2005 in the capacity of Audit and Inspection Manager.  Currently the Vice President of Technical Services, he is responsible for the areas of Wisconsin Workers’ Compensation Insurance Pool (WWCIP) administration, Inspection, Wisconsin Contractor’s Premium Adjustment Program (WCPAP) and Ownership.  Before joining the WCRB, Mr. Cleveland spent 19 years in the premium audit field working for Heritage Mutual, EBI Companies and United Heartland.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from Iowa State University.

WISCONSIN UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE – ANDY SCHNURER, SUE ANDREO & SARA WYNGAARD

Unemployment law updates and unemployment issues when severing ties with employees.

Andy Schnurer started with Unemployment Insurance Tax and Accounting in May 2012 and became a leadworker in November 2016.  He is experienced in assisting employers and representatives with tax questions and maintaining individual employer tax accounts in accordance with Chapter 108 of the Wisconsin Statutes.  As a leadworker he is involved with training staff and development of new policy and procedures.

Sue Andreo has been with the Unemployment Insurance Division since 1993, working the past 10 years as an adjudication supervisor.  Formerly she worked as an adjudication trainer and adjudicator.  In her role as supervisor she works in the development of personnel with regard to unemployment insurance law, policy and procedures.  She also responds to inquiries from employers, claimants and third parties with regard to unemployment insurance.  Sue is a 2016 graduate of UW-Madison's Wisconsin Certified Public Manager program

Sarah Wyngaard has been with Unemployment Insurance for five years, working within the Bureau of Tax and Accounting. As an Advanced Tax and Accounting Specialist, she is responsible for training staff on unemployment insurance law and policies, and responding to internal and external inquiries regarding unemployment insurance tax and employer accounts.

WI DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE – HOLLY HOFFMAN

Update on 2017 Sales Tax Laws and answer your questions.

Holly Hoffman is a field auditor in the Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s Appleton Office.  She is responsible for auditing individuals and corporations for income, franchise, sales, and use tax purposes.  She also provides taxpayer assistance and is a speaker for the Department of Revenue

Mrs. Hoffman has worked for the department since June 2012.  She holds a Bachelor of Technical Management degree in Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting.

ETHICS & PRACTICE MANAGEMENT/SUCCESSION PLANNING – ROBERT MATHERS & ROBERT TEUBER

Bob Mathers is a Shareholder with von Briesen & Roper, providing legal and business advisory services to Midwest businesses and their owners with a focus on closely-held businesses, estate planning and private wealth services. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is AICPA Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and is an AICPA Personal Financial Specialist (PFS). He leverages his prior experience as one of the country’s largest CPA firm’s National Tax Director, and CEO of its Wealth Management subsidiary, to provide tax and transactional guidance to businesses and individual clients. He regularly provides guidance to CPA firms, financial services firms, and the accounting and investment advisory industries.

Bob is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® in Trusts and Estates.

Bob’s professional memberships include American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Tax Practice Responsibilities Committee), Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Academy of Attorney-CPAs, Fox Valley Estate Planning Council, Winnebagoland Estate Planning Council, the Winnebago County Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin (Director, Tax Section) and the American Bar Association (Tax Section).

Bob serves on the Board of Trustees for Mercy Medical Foundation, Inc. He is a member and the Chair of the OLR’s Special Preliminary Review Committee, Oshkosh Area Community Foundation Investment Board, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, and FaB Wisconsin.

Rob Teuber is a Shareholder focusing his practice on tax disputes and controversies for clients nationally, regionally and locally. From a national perspective, Rob assists in resolving IRS tax audits, Tax Court litigation, personal liability assessments, tax collection matters, Offers in Compromise and foreign financial account disclosures. From a state and local perspective, he works with clients to address sales, employment, income and property tax controversies.

Rob takes great pride in assisting organizations and individuals outside of his tax practice. He currently serves on the State Bar of Wisconsin Finance Committee, as Chair-Elect of the Taxation Section Board of Directors, and Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee.

He is a frequent presenter at conferences and continuing legal education seminars. He is also an avid writer and has published articles for CCH tax publications and contributed to articles on complex tax and business issues in the Wisconsin Accountant, BizTimes, CPA Magazine, and Wisconsin Law Journal.

Rob is listed as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer® and is a Fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
